Home Alone

Hmm, felt kinda down yesterday, Sara wasn’t too pleased with me, but then things today have been good (y). Anyway handed in the DWDS group assignment yesterday things on that look good I think. Then got back from uni and just laid around reading, nearly finished Che Guevera: A Revolutionary Life now (y) still enjoying it, it’s not holding my attention as much as it did when he was fighting for the revolution, but the information about his views and relationships with Moscow is pretty interesting, in a different way. During the late evening Nick came in and we decided to do our PED presentation, so that’s finished now, five days early (y). Then we went for a walk for a while.. (more…)

Google Desktop Search

Google Desktop is the latest thing out of googles beta program, predictably it puts Microsofts Windows searching capabilities in the shade. It’s a small (~400k) download.

It operates in a similar fashion to Microsofts search in that it builds up an index and then searches that index. Unlike Microsofts tool, it builds up the index only when your computer is idle. This means there’s a speed improvement over Microsofts search, however it does mean that it can take a while to create the inital index. (more…)

Firefox 1.0-pr

Just installed the new Firefox after putting it off for a while as an extension wouldn’t work. I really like it, a few of the improvements I’ve noticed, in the ten minutes or so I’ve been using it are:

  • The options menu has been cleaned up
  • The practically useless throbber has been made smaller
  • The css style switcher has been moved to the bottom left.
  • There’s an RSS button which allows you to suscribe to a sites RSS feed in three clicks
  • The facility to check email arriving in your default mail client, and one further click to open it
  • The address bar now changes background to yellow to highlight the fact that you’re on a secure site. I think this is far more user friendly then searching around for a tiny padlock

It’s a slightly smaller download than it was before and presumably contains ‘under the hood’ speed ups and bug fixes.

Rubber Ducky

Uhm, well Nick came in yesterday and had had bad news, so we decided to go out to try and take his mind off of things, so called in Yates’, they do a curry day thing like Wetherspoons (y). On the same day though (n). Anyway after a drink I was hungry so we walked down to Ali’s had a value box (y) £3 for kebab, salad, fries and two pieces of southern fried chicken (y) it’s the mad notes! So I had mine, then I had like a third of Nicks pizza. Then we went to the Litten Tree, only by this time I was too bloated to drink, so I forced my pint down, then went to The Forester, then had the brainwave of Vodka and Coke (y), so had a couple of those along with an aftershock. The Forester is cool, it was not busy at all though, would’ve been nice if there were a few more people in, but not like the Wednesday packing. Then we went to see Saw (more…)

Rubber Chicken

Went around to Aarons on Thursday to do some work for PPSP, ended up going to Karls house party with him and Nick. Didn’t intend to get too drunk, but we started playing some game, and I ended up hammered. Had a good time anyway, I rang Sara at one point too, and Evv. Got home and got laughed at for being drunk a bit but meh :D . Felt terrible Friday so I guess I paid for my excesses. Spoke with Tom for the first time in ages this morning which was good (y) Trying to track down this Star Wars Parody I saw on Thursday now (y)

Hmmm Gary

Well, as earlier nothing much happened. Just the usual crazy student japes. Had the gas man come round, who said “I think you’re trustworthy, so I’ll just say I’ve saw the tenancy agreement” (y) Sorted that out, should be fine and the landlord will get his bill. Then did some work, spent a hour and a half cooking chips and pie :D . Highlight of the day was Nick finding this huge spider on the window, so I picked it up and put it on Meggs’ plant while he wasn’t in. About an hour after he came in I heard him exclaim rather loudly from his room, I ran down to see what it was as I’d forgot about the spider and he was stood up pointing at it. Then he picked it up in two empty candle holders and dropped it near his window, which made him jump and scream again, before murdering it with a plug. Haha. Don’t think I’m getting enough sleep lately, yet I finish uni too late tomorrow to get a nap, and friday we’re making beer bongs, so time to catch up on sleep isn’t looking likely till Saturday morn :(

Viva el Revolucion!

ehhhhhhhhhhh, so what’s up folks? Well nothing is up. Been at the same old same old really :/, lots of work to do and not much to talk about. Only thing that happened is the gas/electric people came around to cut us off, so I phoned up, and explained the situation (basically the landlord refuses to take responsibility for the electric used during summer) and he said he’ll sort it out, anyway he came around today and took my details etc, and they’re gonna send him the bill and leave our utitilites on (y).
